Security & Privacy

What do I need to provide to apply for a Slash account?

In order to open your Slash personal and business accounts, we will collect the following information:

  • Name
  • Contact Information
  • SSN to verify identity
  • One form of government-issued ID to verify identity
  • If you are under 18, we will also need the email address of a parent/guardian

Why does Slash need my personal information?

Your Slash account is, first and foremost, a bank account. This means we are required by rule 2090 of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) to verify your identity. With the help of our identity verification partner, we cross-reference the information you provide us, along with your SSN and identification, with national databases to verify its validity.Think of it this way, legalities aside, if we didn’t verify the identity of all Slash users, our private community would be overrun with those looking to exploit legitimate Slash users. We are committed to providing a safe, secure product and community to best support you in your financial goals.

Is Slash safe to use?

When we perform identity checks, the information you provide us is encrypted both in transit and at rest. While in transit, all data is encrypted with TLS/SSL. For the non-sensitive personal identifiable information that is actually stored in our database (name and email), we use the AES-256 protocol for encryption-at-rest, and rotate the keys that could be used to read the data stored in our database very frequently. Check out our privacy policy for more information.

Are my deposits FDIC-insured?

All Slash accounts are FDIC insured. The FDIC—short for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation—is an independent agency of the United States government. The FDIC protects depositors of insured banks located in the United States against the loss of their deposits if an insured bank fails.

Does Slash have 2FA?

Yes! We offer, and highly encourage, all of our Slash community members to enable 2FA on their accounts.

Why doesn't Slash support SMS 2FA?

Text message two-factor authentication can be compromised by hackers who port your phone number (referred to as a “Port-Out Scam”). We require Authy or Authenticator as an alternative as they can’t be compromised in this way.

Slash Cards

Where do Slash cards work?

Slash cards work anywhere MasterCard is accepted!

Are Slash cards merchant locked?

Slash cards are not, by default, merchant locked, and can be used an unlimited amount of times on any merchant.

Does Slash only offer virtual cards?

No! All Slash accounts you open will come with a physical card that you can use in stores or online.

Can I use any billing account with Slash cards?

Yes! Slash virtual cards will always automatically pass address verification checks. This means that you can use any billing information you wish when checking out items from a retailer. Your physical Slash card is locked to the billing address we have on file, found under Settings in your Slash dashboard.

There’s a charge I don’t recognize on my card. What should I do?

Use the chat icon in the bottom corner of your Slash dashboard to contact our support team, they are standing by to assist you in filing a dispute and securing your cards.
